Operations and Production Services
The department of Operations and Production Services is comprised of the areas of Server Operations and Production Control and Scheduling.
Server Operations manages and maintains a state-of-the-art, highly automated, professional Operations and Server facility. The server environment will support high-availability, fault-tolerance, and immediate repair requirements for critical production servers and peripheral devices including enterprise tape and disk subsystems as well as production printer subsystems.
The group members and management focus on continuous improvement of network and server device monitoring by concentrating on core competencies, standard procedures, good operations management, more automation of routine functions where applicable, and increasingly more sophisticated techniques and tools. The group is a true Operations Center (University ITS OPS) by being proactive in its monitoring responsibilities, in identifying network or server problems, and in either resolving these problems or initiating escalation of problem calls to technical support or directly to hardware and software vendors as required.
The Production Control and Scheduling Area is responsible for the successful and timely processing of administrative production schedules. These production schedules are made up of jobs that contain raw data which are processed by computer programs on the Enterprise Server and/or PC Networks. The input for these jobs are created daily from updates and transactions occurring in specific CICS regions by various Administrative Departments.
When production schedules are completed, they produce information in various forms, such as:
- Departmental reports (FRS+, GENESYS, etc.),
- Special Forms:
- Transcripts,
- Grade Mailers,
- NCS Scanner Forms for Teacher Evaluations & Instructor Grade Sheets,
